Marina Harper, BSc, PhD

Text Minding Associate

Marina has lived and breathed biological science for over 30 years and also freelances as a scientific writer and editor. She completed her PhD in Microbiology at Monash University in 2004. Her research in molecular microbiology focuses on pathogenic bacteria, how they cause disease, actively compete with rival bacteria, and resist antibiotic therapy. This work has allowed her to be immersed in the latest molecular biology techniques, including a range of mutagenesis techniques, genomics, and transcriptomics.

Marina has published over 35 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, and has had the privilege of supervising many talented Honours and PhD students. She reviews for a number of scientific journals and has been on the editorial staff for an international scientific journal. An active researcher herself, Marina regularly participates in writing and reviewing grants and is fortunate to be a chief investigator on a current NHMRC Project Grant. With her deep understanding of science and the research environment, Marina is in an excellent position to help others achieve success.
