Peter Barrett

As a freelance journalist, Peter is passionate about great storytelling in all its forms. He has more than 25 years of experience writing news and feature stories for Australian magazines, newspapers, and websites, including The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, Epicure Good Food, Traveller, and inflight magazines for Jetstar and Virgin Australia.
Peter studied Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University, which led him to apply for a cadetship with The Age. He subsequently worked for The Saturday Age before joining The Age (Melbourne) Magazine team as staff writer and then returning to freelancing.
Peter has shared his experiences as a sessional teacher of freelance writing and journalism for the Associate Degree of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT and as a tutor with the University of Melbourne. More recently, he has been working with academics and universities to translate complex research themes and language into compelling written stories for prize and funding applications.
